Vector-Borne Diseases

Protecting public health is the District's top priority.
The most common vector-borne diseases transmitted to humans by mosquitoes are West Nile Virus (WNV) and St Louis Encephalitis Virus (SLEV).  You can reduce your risk of being infected with mosquito-borne diseases by using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites. You can also help reduce areas where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Remember to dump and drain standing water on your property, report neglected pools to the District at (760) 342-8287 and report dead birds to the WNV hotline at (877) 968-247 or the online reporting tool.
