The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District is a special district accountable to the residents of the Coachella Valley and charged with protecting the public health within its boundaries through the control of vectors (such as mosquitoes) and vector-borne diseases.
A vector is an insect or animal capable of transmitting viruses or disease to human hosts. The District’s objectives are to keep vector populations below levels where they become a serious public health problem, leading to an outbreak of disease.

The primary mission of the Operations Department is the control of mosquitoes, Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA), and eye gnats. Additionally, residents are provided with assistance on roof rats and flies through inspections and information on habitat reduction and exclusion from dwellings.
