Mosquitoes Test Positive For St. Louis Encephalitis Virus In Thermal-Oasis

More adult mosquito applications planned in Palm Springs and the east valley.

Mosquitoes collected from a District trap in Thermal-Oasis tested positive for St. Louis Encephalitis virus (SLEV) this week. This is the first detection of SLEV in the Coachella Valley this year. Thermal-Oasis mosquito samples also tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). Additionally, WNV was detected in 37 samples throughout the valley including Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Mecca, Palm Desert and Palm Springs. This brings the total WNV positive samples to 169 for 2019 which is more than any previous year since WNV was first detected in 2003.
