Helicopter Treatments to Battle Mosquitoes in Palm Springs and East Valley

Products to control mosquito larvae will be applied in Palm Springs and to control adult mosquitoes in the east valley.

The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District will conduct larval mosquito control treatments by helicopter in Palm Springs where high numbers of adult mosquitoes continue to test positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Although many areas in the Coachella Valley are showing concentrations of WNV activity, the District’s Mosquito-Borne Virus Surveillance and Emergency Response Plan helps target control applications where risk of WNV transmission is greatest. Despite control efforts, adult mosquito surveillance in an area of Palm Springs indicates that unidentified sources of standing water are still present and maintaining ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Another high risk area which has already been treated by helicopter and will continue to be treated is in the east valley near the north shore.
